As the vibrant colors of autumn foliage begin to paint the landscape, it's important to take a moment to consider your wellness during the fall season, especially when incorporating traditional Chinese medicine into your healthcare routine. This time of year, marked by cooler temperatures and shifting energies, holds a unique significance in the realm of Chinese medicine. To ensure your health and vitality during this season, here are some essential guidelines and practices:

Boosting Immunity: Fall season is often associated with an increase in respiratory infections. In traditional Chinese medicine, this is seen as a time when the Lung and Large Intestine meridians are most active. To bolster your immune system, consider herbal remedies and acupuncture treatments that can strengthen your Lung Qi.

Balancing Yin and Yang: Autumn represents the transition from the active, yang energy of summer to the more introspective, yin energy of winter. It's crucial to maintain a balance in your body's yin and yang energies during this time. Incorporate warming and moist foods like date, ophiopogon, goji berry, and pear.

Strengthening Digestion: As the temperature drops, your digestive system may become more vulnerable. Opt for cooked, warm, and easily digestible meals, and avoid excessive consumption of cold and raw foods. Embrace seasonal produce and ingredients, such as squashes, root vegetables, and fruits like apples and pears. These foods are not only nutritious but are also aligned with the natural energies of the season.

Exercise and Stress Management:  Engage in regular, moderate exercise to maintain your Qi flow and reduce stress. Activities like Tai Chi or Qigong can help you stay grounded and harmonize with the seasonal changes.

Proper Dressing: As the weather gets cooler, dress in layers to protect yourself from sudden temperature changes and wind. In Chinese medicine, exposure to cold winds can disrupt the balance of your body's energies, potentially leading to illness.

By incorporating these traditional Chinese medicine principles into your fall season wellness routine, you can support your health and well-being, promoting harmony with the natural rhythms of this beautiful season.

Enjoy the beautiful autumn!

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to help enhance the immune system and prevent illness. These functions help treat cold and flu effectively. They additionally help relieve the symptoms of seasonal allergy such as hay fever. Cold, flu and seasonal allergy have some common symptoms: cough, fever, sore throat, feeling cold, etc.

Ways to Prevent:
  1. Add or remove layers of clothes according to the weather.
  2. Drink lots of water and avoid excessive sweating.
  3. Eat nutritious food containing multi-vitamins.
  4. Massage by rubbing up and down the sides of the nose. This helps with blood circulation.
  5. Limit amount of exercise to avoid excessive sweating. Best to avoid extreme temperature shifts.

When symptoms appear, do the following:
  1. Drink lots of water to keep hydrated.
  2. Have plain and high nutrient food. Try to avoid greasy and cold food.
  3. Get plenty of rest.
  4. Rinse and clean nose using sinus rinse or Neti pot.
  5. Take over-the-counter medicine to treat fever.

Chinese Medicine views cold and flu as pathogenic invasions. Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture can be applied to expel those invasions.

"Acupuncture and Chinese medicinals help to improve ovarian function, allowing for development of better quality eggs and strong, healthy embryos. Chinese medicine can also regulate estrogen and progesterone levels, thereby thickening the lining of the uterus. Research indicates increased blood flow to the uterus can help promote follicular development and also implantation of the embryo." (Liang, Lifang, O.M.D., Ph.D., L.Ac.
